inclusions & info
please read each section carefully before enquiring, especially “Your journey here.” there is very important info regarding the cabins location
-
The cabin is located on a winding dirt road which is busy during peak times. Allow 9 minutes of dirt road until you reach the cabin. Dust does come towards the cabin in warmer seasons as the traffic numbers increase.
The speed limit is 50km but please be aware of cars coming the other way, which is common & to be expected. Take your time on dusk - The wildlife will thank you.
Our sign is located on the driveway gate.
-
Enjoy your morning coffee snuggled up under a feather-down duvet & plush, natural fibre linen in the Queen room overlooking the Valley. If you're a bookworm, you'll love the built-in backlight on the bedhead.
The kids will love unwinding in their own storybook-themed room, complete with two single beds, a private TV with DVDs, a selection of books, & Peter Rabbit to keep them company.

-
Craving a night under the stars to feel grounded? We have a firepit available - fluffy marshmallows included! Deck chairs & outdoor seating lay waiting, ready for you
If you plan to spend more time by the fire than we anticipated, you can pick up additional bags of firewood from our friendly neighbour on Howqua River Rd while on your way to the cabin when available. They are $20 cash per bag.
-
For those warmer days over 30 degrees, we recommend turning the air conditioner on at 10:30 am. The ceiling fans will be switched to 'winter' mode purposely to draw cool air in. In peak seasons when cars are frequent, we kindly ask the front windows & door stay closed when possible as the dust does come inside. Frequency of cars reduce at nightfall.
-
During the cooler months, we’ll ensure that the fire is pre-stacked for you. By retaining previously used coals, the fire will maintain its heat more efficiently. If you're not accustomed to using a fireplace, it might take a little time to get the hang of it. Alternatively, the split system heats the cabin comfortably.
Wood is neatly stacked and ready for use on the rear decking. The supply should last throughout your stay, so please use it judiciously.
A smoke alarm is fitted on the middle wall, across from the bedrooms
-
Our water supply is rainwater only, so please be mindful – though our hot water tank is humbly sized for four people to shower comfortably. When turning taps on, expect to hear the pump kick in & to take a moment for water pressure.
If the power is out, the water pump will not work. this is out of our control. we will let you know of any text message updates we receive from Powercor.
The cabin uses a septic tank. No feminine hygiene products or "flush safe" wipes are to be put down the toilet.

Breathe deeply, soak up the pure High Country air, and listen to the Howqua River trickling or rushing through the valley below. emergencies - call 000
Mansfield District Hospital: (03) 5775 8800 is your closest medical facility.
For park-related concerns, contact Parks Victoria: 13 19 63.
In the event of a bushfire threat, leave immediately. Power is often cut. If it is too late, seek refuge at Howqua Camp (located along Howqua River Rd before the cabin).
During a power outage, we recommend travelling to Running Creek for heat relief, or taking a trip into Mansfield for amenities & supplies. Keep in mind the water pump to the pipes will also cut out, so flushing the toilet only when necessary is recommended. The benchtop water filter is a good resource to keep full if a storm is brewing. Please contact us if you run out of drinking water.
A smoke alarm is fitted on the middle wall, across from the bedrooms. A first aid kit is readily available in the second drawer in the bathroom. Both doors are lockable however the front door can only be unlocked with the key from the lockbox.

you will likely see evidence of our eastern grey roos, many native birds, our resident blue tongue lizard in the rear garden, “Wally” the Wombat, foxes, rabbits, even the sounds of wild dingoes & the honking of deer!
Be aware that snakes are present mainly at the top of the property. As the house is all made of wood, splinters are to be expected during an accident.
For injured wildlife, call Wildlife Victoria on (03 8400 7300) (operating hours apply). For emergency after-hours situations where an animal cannot be moved, call 000 for police assistance.
You may occasionally hear the sounds of gunshots from hunters in the area. Please remain aware of your surroundings, especially when exploring public property.
